UPDATE #1 – Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision in St. Catharines

Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) detectives assigned to the Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) have been actively investigating the fatal collision that occurred at a St. Catharines Aquatic Centre on July 31, 2025.

As a result of continued investigation, detectives charged the driver of the vehicle, a 74-year-old St. Catharines resident, with the following provincial offence:

Careless Driving Cause Death

The driver was issued a Part III Provincial Summons with a future court date.

This investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 905-688-4111, dial option 3, extension 1009504.

The Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) has several officers on scene of a fatal motor vehicle collision at an aquatic centre located at the corner of Carlton Street and Niagara Street in St. Catharines.

A child pedestrian has been struck and killed in the parking lot of the centre.  The child’s next of kin has been notified. The driver of the vehicle remained on scene.

This remains an active scene and the NRPS is requesting that people avoid the area.  If anyone must pick up anybody from the centre, they must use the far east end of the parking lot.  The west end of the parking lot and surrounding park area will be closed for several hours to allow for investigation.

There is no information on causes at this time, as the investigation is active.  The NRPS Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) has carriage of the investigation.
