Through continued work by detectives with the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) Domestic Violence Unit (DVU), 5 District (Fort Erie) Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU), Forensic Services Unit (FSU), and the Traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU), a male suspect has been charged in relation to this incident on January 18, 2025.
A 45-year-old man from Fort Erie is charged with the following offences:
Attempt Murder Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle Cause Bodily Harm Criminal Negligence Cause Bodily Harm Impaired Driving Cause Bodily Harm Uttering Threats X2 (Spousal) Careless Storage of a Firearm
Investigators seized a Savage 410 Shotgun from a residence in Fort Erie.
The female victim did not sustain any injuries.
The NRPS Officer remains in hospital recovering from serious injuries sustained during this incident.
The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing that took place on January, 19th, 2025, via video link to the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse located at 59 Church Street in the City of St. Catharines. The accused was remanded back into custody.
As part of this incident is being investigated by the Domestic Violence Unit, in order to protect the identity and privacy of the victim, the accused’s name is not being released.
This incident also remains under investigation by the Ontario Special Investigations Unit (SIU). As such, the NRPS is prohibited from releasing further details.
