The Ontario government has expanded services on the Ontario 511 app to help drivers better plan their route when travelling on highways this winter.
App users will now be able to check road conditions, check Environment Canada weather warnings, track the locations of snowplows, and locate rest stops along Ontario highways.
The Ontario 511 app was launched in the province to provide highway and traffic information to those travelling on Ontario highways. The over 600 cameras across the province allow the app to collect information important to drivers.
In addition to the features offered in the new update, the app also includes a scrollable, zoomable map that relays information on construction and roadwork, traffic speeds, road closures, collisions and other road hazards, and seasonal loads. Users can also access this information hands-free by using the Drive Mode Alerts feature, which sends audio alerts to notify drivers of important highway and traffic information.
The app is available to download through the Google Play and the Apple App Store.
More information on the apps can be found on the Ontario 511 website.
