Ontario reported 4,447 new COVID-19 cases on Monday and 8,612 cases over the weekend. The Niagara Region reported 169 new cases on Monday and 312 cases over the weekend.
Across the province, there were 4,362 new cases reported on Saturday, and on Sunday there were 4,250.

There were 34 new deaths reported on Saturday in the province, 18 deaths reported on Sunday, and 19 reported today. There have been 7,735 COVID-19 deaths in Ontario to date.
The Niagara Region reported five new deaths over the weekend. In total, 384 people have died from the virus in the region.
“Ontario is reporting 4,447 cases of #COVID19 and nearly 42,900 tests completed. Locally, there are 1,299 new cases in Toronto, 926 in Peel, 577 in York Region, 233 in Ottawa and 227 in Hamilton,” said Christine Elliott, Deputy Premier of Ontario and Minister of Health, on Twitter Monday morning.
Vaccine doses administered in Ontario and Niagara
More than 112,288 vaccine doses were administered in Canada on Monday bringing the total number of vaccines administered across the country to more than 10,092,914. That means that 24.145 per cent of the Canadian population has received at least one dose of the vaccine.
Over 66,897 of yesterday’s doses were given in Ontario, for a total of approximately 3,904,778 administered across the province so far. That’s 26.482 per cent of the provincial population.
Niagara Health reported 2,665 new doses were administered as of Monday morning.
A total of 44,375 doses have been administered in the region by Niagara Public Health in long-term care homes and high-risk retirement homes.

The total number of vaccinations in the region is at 134,679. Against a population of 447,888 (2016 census), that means about 30.069 per cent of the region’s residents have received at least one vaccination dose so far.

COVID cases remained above 100 over the weekend with 143 cases on Saturday, and 169 cases on both Sunday and Monday.
Case numbers have remained under the daily record of 471 cases on Jan. 11, the largest single-day jump ever seen in the region due in part to a backlog of cases being updated. However, numbers surpassed the previous daily record of 196 reported on Jan. 8.
Five new COVID-19 related deaths have been reported over the weekend. The COVID-19 death count measured since the start of the pandemic is 384.
2,202 cases in Ontario hospitals
Ontario has now had 421,442 total cases, with 370,844 cases resolved. There are 2,202 cases in hospitals, with 755 in intensive care and 516 on ventilators.
Hospitalized cases increased by 247, the number of those in intensive care increased by 54, and the number of patients on ventilators increased by 36 since Friday.
The total number of confirmed cases in the Niagara Region now at 12,141 with 10,018 resolved. Of those cases, there are 1,739 active cases, up by 334 since Friday and 17 29 active outbreaks, down by 12 since Friday.
