Detectives Investigating Forster Street Stabbing in St. Catharines – Update 1

Detectives from the 1 District detective office from the Niagara Regional Police continue to investigate this matter.  Uniform officers arriving on scene at the time of the call arrested one of the suspects. Micheal David Mulligan (22 years) of no fixed address has been charged with the Criminal Code offences of:

Break Enter and Indictable Offence (Assault with a Weapon) Possession Weapon Dangerous Purpose Pointing a Firearm Disguised with Intent Fail to Comply with Probation Order

Mulligan was held in custody to attend a video bail hearing to the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines on September 16, 2022.

The second unknown suspect in this matter remains at large.  Anyone (residents or businesses) in the area with closed circuit security cameras, doorbell video cameras, or dash cameras are asked to review their footage for suspicious activity for the period between 12:30am and 2:30am on September 16, 2022.

On September 16, 2022, 1 District – St Catharines / Thorold uniform officers from the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) responded to a report of an armed person incident in St. Catharines.

Officers attended at a house on Forster Street near Scott Street where they located a male victim in his 20s suffering from a serious stab wound.  The victim was treated on scene by Niagara Emergency Services paramedics and subsequently transported to an out of region hospital.

The initial investigation by officers has determined that at 1:20am two masked men were confronted by the homeowner in the driveway of a Forster Street house.  One of the male suspects was armed with a long gun.  The other suspect, armed with a knife forced their way into the house and became involved in a fight with one of the residents.   That resident was stabbed once.  The suspect in the house was restrained and disarmed by people in the house.  He was held until the police arrived and was arrested.

A K9 Unit and officers from the NRPS Emergency Task Unit cleared the house and then searched the area for the suspect who was last seen running towards Scott Street.  The suspect was not located.

Detectives from the 1 District detective office have been assigned.  They are being assisted by detectives from the NRPS Forensic Services Unit.

This investigation is in it early stages and is ongoing. Detectives have reason to believe this was a targeted incident. More information about the male in custody will be released when he is charged.
