Ontario is reporting 625 new COVID-19 cases today, an increase from yesterday’s 554 cases, but trending down below the 700 new cases reported on Monday.
A second wave of COVID-19 has now been confirmed by modeling among the province’s health analysts.
Niagara Region reported nine new cases today. This is a decrease from the double-digit numbers reported Monday and over the weekend. It’s a slight increase on yesterday when five cases were reported.
“Ontario is reporting 625 cases of #COVID19 as nearly 35,800 tests were completed. Locally, there were 288 new cases in Toronto with 97 in Peel, 64 in Ottawa, and 41 in the York Region. 62 per cent of today’s cases are in people under the age of 40. There are 457 more resolved cases today,” said Health Minister Christine Elliott on Twitter this morning.
Other health units that reported higher daily cases numbers include Ottawa with 64 cases, Simcoe Muskoka District with 12 cases, Middlesex London with 11 cases, and Hamilton with 11 cases.
However, 11 out of 24 public health units in Ontario reported no new cases.
There were four new deaths reported today in Ontario. There were no new deaths reported in the Niagara Region.
Ontario now has 51,710 confirmed cases, with 43,907 of those cases resolved. There have been 2848 deaths. There are 150 cases in hospitals, with 35 in intensive care and 11 people on ventilators.
The total number of confirmed cases in Niagara is now at 1,073, with 918 resolved. Of those cases, there are 91 active cases and six active outbreaks. There have been 64 deaths.
