What’s on in the Bench: Oct. 2-4

Here is what’s on for the weekend of Oct. 2-4. Listed below are public events planned in Grimsby, Beamsville, Smithville, Jordan Station, Vineland and area.

Friday, Oct. 2

Fri-YAY night trivia at Station 1 Coffeehouse

Trivia Night at Station 1 Coffeehouse in Grimsby runs every Friday. Groups of 6 required. Adults only. To reserve a table call the cafe at 905-309-4000 or drop by to book in person. More information here.

Saturday, Oct. 3

Rug hooking workshop

Rug hooking is an art form where rugs are made by pulling loops of yarn or fabric through a stiff backing. In this hands-on class, participants will learn the the basic process and make their very own small project. Instructor Betty Calvert will guide participants through the basic techniques. Morning yoga flow at Good Earth Winery

An invigorating morning practice will be led by Yoga Vine. The fresh air yoga practice links breath with movement to increase flexibility through stretching and relaxing muscles of the whole body. For more information click here.

Kids Fall workshop at The Watering Can

Attend a fall workshop at the Watering Can. Kids 12 and under will plant a tin container with assorted tropical plants, colourful mosses and a mini pumpkin. Theontainer can be hung or free standing. Please note:  Only register children. Do not register an adult to a table. The Watering Can will account for counting on one adult per child for proper social distancing.More information on this and future workshops here.

Dinner and stargazing at Calamus Winery

Guests will enjoy a four course gourmet meal and the stargaze from the Calamus Winery tower and telescopes. This is an adult only event. Stargazing begins at 11pm along with live music. Full event informaiton is here.

Fraktur folkart water color painting workshop

Fraktur is a highly artistic and elaborate illuminated folk art created by the Canadian Mennonite settlers between 1740 and 1860. Drawn in ink and watercolour, Fraktur means ‘broken script’, named for its unique calligraphy style. Participants will learn about this distinctive art form and try to create a Fraktur Drawing. Pioneer Kids Craft Day at Lincoln Museum and Cultural Centre

Town of Lincoln Museum and Cultural Centre is holding a Pioneer Kids Craft Day. Attendees can register for one of the fun sessions to create four wonderful pioneer crafts, from candle dipping to nature crafts and more info here.

Lincoln’s ‘Nature in our Neighbourhood’ competition

Residents of Lincoln can join in the Nature in our Neighbourhood Autumn Edition compeition by posting pictures of their family in nature. Pictures can be taken in their yard, local park or conservation area, or anywhere outside in Lincoln, Ontario. More details here.

Balls Falls Annual Thanksgiving Festival

This year the Balls Fall Thanksgiving Festival has gone virtual. In its 46th year, the Ball’s Falls Thanksgiving Festival is a Niagara Tradition that normally runs October 9th through October 12th. The 2020 festival, which was originally conceived as four days of exciting in-person shopping, featuring delicious local food, drinks, artisan vendors, and historical tours and demonstrations has been transformed into a virtual experience.
