An individual at William Hamilton Merritt Public School in St. Catharines has tested positive for COVID-19, Niagara Regional Public Health says.
For privacy reasons the infected person is not being named by the District School Board of Niagara. The board is also not disclosing whether the person is a student or staff member.
“Students and staff who were in close proximity to the individual are being contacted and told by NRPH
to stay home and self-isolate for 14 days,” said a DSBN advisory released Wednesday evening.
The board said school custodians have completed a thorough cleaning of the entire school. Members of the William Hamilton Merritt school community will continue preventative COVID-19 practices such as physical distancing, handwashing, and daily health screening.
A health inspector and public health nurse from Niagara Region will visit the school Thursday morning to conduct an assessment.
The board said it will work with the school “collaboratively with Niagara Region Public Health to ensure the school meets all the health and safety protocols required.”
