Niagara Region debuted yesterday it’s new branding and messaging for waste management: Box it. Bin it. Sort it.
The region showed off trucks from Miller Waste Systems, a waste contractor, with the new branding yesterday. It will appear on all collection trucks in the region to encourage residents to recycle and compost to help the environment.
The new graphics replace the old “Re-think Your Waste” campaign (pictured below) that has been used for over 10 years.
“The man with the grass hair served us well for over a decade, but we think it’s important to get the message out to Niagarans that it’s worth the effort to recycle and compost,” explained Catherine Habermebl, Director of Niagara Region Waste Management Services.
This branding change comes in time for the new waste collection changes starting on Oct. 19. These changes include garbage collecting every-other-week and item limits for household collection. Recycling and organic waste will continue to be collected each week. These changes are designed to reduce the amount of waste going to the landfill.
“This new campaign and brand will resonate with residents for years to come as people are becoming more mindful of their environment and recycling habits,” said Habermebl.
Miller Waste Systems is one of the two collection companies that will be responsible for waste collection in the Niagara Region. It will be covering the areas of Fort Erie, Niagara Falls, Niagara-on-the-lake, Port Colborne, St. Catharines, and Welland. The other collection company, Green for Life (GFL) will be covering the West and central Niagara communities of Grimsby, Lincoln, Pelham, Thorold, Wainfleet, and West Lincoln.
“Miller Waste Systems Inc. is very excited to shortly begin servicing Niagara Region residents and developing a broader, long term relationship with the Region. We have and are prepared to make a significant investment in Niagara, in terms of property, collection assets and waste processing capacity”, said Denis Goulet, President of Miller Waste Systems.
Miller Waste Systems is a waste management business that has been running for over 50 years, with more than 30 locations across Ontario, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Manitoba.
The branded trucks were revealed at its new facility on Townline Rd. in Niagara-on-the-Lake, where Miller’s local operations will be taking place.
