Ontario COVID-19 daily cases nudge up to 1,723 with 35 new deaths; Niagara reports 20 with one new death

Ontario reported 1,723 new COVID-19 cases today, a slight increase from yesterday’s report of 1,707.

The Niagara Region reported 20 new cases, same as yesterday’s report.

“Ontario is reporting 1,723 cases of #COVID19. Locally, there are 500 new cases in Peel, 410 in Toronto and 196 in York Region. There are 1,686 more resolved cases and over 44,200 tests completed,” said Ontario Health Minister Christine Elliott on Twitter this morning.

Public health units in Ontario also reporting higher case numbers include Durham Region with 124 new cases, Waterloo with 103 cases, Hamilton with 74 new cases, and Windsor with 60 new cases. Other public health units reported 45 cases or less.

There were 35 new COVID-19 deaths reported in Ontario today. This brings the total number in the province to 3,698. There was one new death reported today in Niagara. In total, 85 people have died from the coronavirus in the region.

Niagara Region continues to report numbers under 30 after the spike of cases seen last weekend with 36 cases reported on Saturday. This is the highest daily case count since Nov. 10 when the region saw a new record high of 63 cases.

656 cases in Ontario hospitals

Ontario has now had 119,922 total cases, with 101,698 cases resolved. There are currently 656 cases in hospitals, with 186 in intensive care and 106 on ventilators.

Hospitalized cases increased by 11, but the number of those in intensive care decreased by two and patients on ventilators decreased by six since yesterday.

The total number of confirmed cases in the Niagara Region is now at 2,181 with 1,887 resolved. Of those cases, there are 209 active cases, increasing by two since yesterday and 16 active outbreaks, down by two since yesterday.
