Ontario reported 1589 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, and 3,122 new cases over the weekend. Meanwhile, Niagara Region reported 19 cases today and 53 new cases over the weekend.
In Ontario, there were 1,588 new cases reported on Saturday and 1,534 new cases reported on Sunday.
On Saturday in the Niagara Region, there were 36 new cases reported. On Sunday there were 17 new cases.
“Ontario is reporting 1,589 cases of #COVID19. Locally, there are 535 new cases in Peel, 336 in Toronto and 205 in York Region. There are 1,484 more resolved cases and nearly 37,500 tests completed,” said Christine Elliott, Deputy Premier of Ontario and Minister of Health, on Twitter Monday morning.
Public health units in Ontario also reporting higher cases numbers include Waterloo with 83 new cases, Hamilton with 61 new cases, Windsor with 56 new cases, Halton with 53 new cases, and Durham with 41 cases. Other public health units reported 40 cases or less.
There were 21 new deaths reported on Saturday in the province and 14 deaths reported on Sunday. There are 19 new deaths reported today. There have been 3,505 deaths in Ontario to date.
There were no new deaths reported in the Niagara Region over the weekend or today. In total, 81 people have died from the coronavirus in the region.
Niagara saw a spike of cases this weekend with 36 cases reported on Saturday. This is the highest daily case count since Nov. 10 when the region saw a new record high of 63 cases. The previous high was on June 3 with 40 cases.
507 cases in Ontario hospitals
Ontario has now had 105,501 total cases, with 88,992 cases resolved. There are currently 507 cases in hospitals, with 156 in intensive care and 92 on ventilators.
Hospitalized cases decreased by 11, but the number of those in intensive increased by 14 and patients on ventilators remained the same since Friday.
The total number of confirmed cases in the Niagara Region as of yesterday is now at 1,998 with 1,709 resolved. Of those cases, there are 208 active cases, increasing by 25 since Friday and 16 active outbreaks, down by one since Friday.
