Ontario reported 3,436 new COVID-19 cases on Monday and 7,101 cases over the weekend. The Niagara Region reported 96 new cases on Monday and 223 cases over the weekend.
Across the province, there were 3,369 new cases reported on Saturday, and 3,732 on Sunday.
Niagara Region reported 110 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday and 113 on Sunday.
There were 29 new deaths reported on Saturday in the province, 23 deaths reported on Sunday, and 16 reported today. There have been 8,118 COVID-19 deaths in Ontario to date.
The Niagara Region reported three new deaths over the weekend. In total, 395 people have died from the virus in the region.
“Ontario is reporting 3,436 cases of #COVID19 and nearly 33,200 tests completed. Locally, there are 985 new cases in Toronto, 714 in Peel, 351 in York Region, 271 in Durham and 194 in Hamilton,” said Christine Elliott, Deputy Premier of Ontario and Minister of Health, on Twitter Monday morning.
Vaccine doses administered in Ontario and Niagara
More than 102,218 vaccine doses were administered in Canada on Monday bringing the total number of vaccines administered across the country to more than 13,927,694. That means that 33.66 per cent of the Canadian population have received at least one dose of the vaccine.
Over 53,880 of yesterday’s doses were given in Ontario, for a total of approximately 5,378,249 administered across the province so far. That’s 36.475 per cent of the provincial population.
Niagara Health reported 1,305 new doses were administered as of Monday morning.
A total of 61,047 doses have been administered in the region by Niagara Public Health in long-term care homes and high-risk retirement homes as of Friday.
The total number of vaccinations in the region is at 186,022. Against a population of 447,888 (2016 census), that means about 41.533 per cent of the region’s residents have received at least one vaccination dose so far.

COVID cases remained above 100 over the weekend with 110 cases on Saturday and 113 cases on Sunday. Cases fell below 100 on Monday with 96 cases reported.
Case numbers have remained under the daily record of 471 cases on Jan. 11, the largest single-day jump ever seen in the region due in part to a backlog of cases being updated. However, numbers surpassed the previous daily record of 196 reported on Jan. 8.
Three new COVID-19 related deaths have been reported over the weekend. The COVID-19 death count measured since the start of the pandemic in the region is 395.
1,925 cases in Ontario hospitals
Ontario has now had 473,901 total cases, with 428,786 cases resolved. There are 1,925 cases in hospitals, with 889 in intensive care and 611 632 on ventilators.
Hospitalized cases decreased by 276, the number of those in intensive care increased by six, and the number of patients on ventilators decreased by 21 since Friday.
The total number of confirmed cases in the Niagara Region now at 14,132 with 10,456 resolved. Of those cases, there are 3,281 active cases, up by 209 since Friday and 20 active outbreaks, up by two since Friday.
