UPDATE 1 – Charges Laid in Niagara Falls Fatal Collision from June 2025

Niagara Falls, ON – Detectives with the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) have laid charges in relation to a June 12, 2025, collision which took the life of a 22-year-old motorcycle rider.

The collision took place at approximately 11:30 P.M. on June 12, 2025, at the intersection of Thorold Stone Road and Dorchester Road in Niagara Falls.  A motorcycle was travelling eastbound, being operated by 22-year-old Brian Hawkins, of Niagara Falls.  As Hawkins approached the intersection on a green light, a 2011 Hyundai Elantra that was travelling westbound into the same intersection, proceeded to turn left into the path of the motorcycle.  The two collided, separating Hawkins from the motorcycle, resulting in life threatening injuries to Hawkins.  Hawkins succumbed to his injuries later that evening in hospital.

On August 12, 2025, after an extensive investigation by the Collision Reconstruction Unit, a 19-year-old male resident of Niagara Falls was charged with the following Highway Traffic Act offence.

Careless Operation Causing Death

The male will make a court appearance in early January 2026.

The Hawkins family are grateful for the outpouring of support because of this tragic incident and expressed their thanks to the team of investigators for their efforts in this case.

NRPS Investigating Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision on Thorold Stone Road – Niagara Falls On June 12, 2025, at 11:29 p.m., a Niagara Regional Police Service officer on patrol observed a serious motor vehicle collision in Niagara Falls.

Additional uniform officers from the 2 District (Niagara Falls/Niagara-on-the-Lake) office of the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) and emergency services personnel responded to the intersection of Thorold Stone Road and Dorchester Road. The initial investigation determined that a red 2020 Honda motorcycle and a black 2011 Hyundai Elantra had collided.

The driver of the motorcycle, a 22-year-old man from Niagara Falls, suffered critical injuries. He was treated at the scene by Niagara Emergency Medical Services paramedics and Niagara Falls Fire Service personnel, then transported to an out-of-region hospital for further care. Tragically, he died from his injuries at the hospital.

The driver of the Hyundai, a 19-year-old man from Niagara Falls, was not injured.

Both vehicles were demolished as a result of the collision.

Detectives from the NRPS Collision Reconstruction Unit were called to the scene and are being assisted by detectives from the NRPS Forensic Services Unit.

Roads in the area were reopened at 7:30 a.m. on June 13, 2025.
