15-Year-Old Arrested Following Welland Stabbing

On March 6, 2023, at 9:17pm, 3 District – Welland uniform officers from the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) responded to a report of a fight inside a restaurant in the City of Welland.

Officers arrived on scene at the restaurant located on Lincoln Street near King Street. A 15-year-old male victim was found to be suffering from a stab wound.  The victim was treated at the scene by Niagara Emergency Medical Services paramedics and transported to an out of region hospital with serious injuries believed to be nonlife threatening.

The initial investigation determined that two groups of youths including the suspect and victim had previously been involved in an altercation.  That altercation re kindled when the groups encountered each other in the restaurant.  The situation escalated and it became a physical fight. During the fight the victim was stabbed with a knife.

3 District detectives were assigned to the investigation.  A suspect was identified, located and arrested.

A 15-year-old male from Welland has been arrested and charged with the criminal offence of:

Assault with a Weapon

The accused was later released on a Form 10 Undertaking with a future court date.

The Youth Criminal Justice Act of Canada prohibits the Niagara Regional Police Service from identifying the youth charged in relation to this matter.
