Detectives Investigating Man Impersonating as a Police Officer – Niagara Falls

On March 6th, 2023, Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) officers assigned to 2 District (Niagara Falls / Niagara-on-the-Lake) entered into a suspicious person investigation where it is alleged a traffic stop was conducted by a male suspect who was impersonating a police officer.

Investigation has determined, the complainant was operating their vehicle on Drummond Road near Prospect Street, in the City of Niagara Falls on March 6th, 2023, at 6:20pm when a black vehicle with white doors activated red and blue emergency lighting.  The complainant pulled to the side of the road and was approached by the suspect who gave the impression he was a police officer.  When the complainant became suspicious, the suspect was asked for his name and badge number, at which point the suspect returned to his vehicle and fled the area.

The suspect is described as:

–          Male

–          White / tan skin

–          20-30 years of age

–          5’11” tall

–          Small patch of facial hair under his bottom lip

The suspect was last seen wearing:

–          Black toque with a Canadian flag on it

–          Dark jacket with a name tag

–          Duty belt with handcuffs and a baton

Detectives assigned to the 2 District Criminal Investigative Branch have been assigned carriage of the investigation.

Area residents and businesses with CCTV capabilities and motorists who were in the area with an operational dash camera are encouraged to review their footage and report any relevant information.  Furthermore, detectives are seeking to speak with anyone who may have been in the area and witnessed this traffic stop.
