The Town of Lincoln and Downtown Bench Beamsville BIA have cancel the Fling on King event this year.

The Fling on King is a street party in downtown Beamsville, featuring live music, food trucks, and local drink vendors. The event began in 2018, as part of the Lincoln Rerooted initiative, which is designed to celebrate the community’s roots and showcase the town’s culture, heritage, history, growth, through a series of events and activities. The Fling on King served as an art event for Lincoln Rerooted.

It was scheduled for Oct. 3 this year but was cancelled by the organizers after a review of the current public health restrictions involving social gatherings. In Stage 3 of Ontario’s reopening plan, gatherings are limited to 50 people indoors and 100 people outdoors. However, Dr. David Williams, Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, has advised limiting gatherings that promote the congregation of large numbers of people into one area.

In the past, the Fling on King event has seen turnouts of upwards of 5,000 people. Gathering limits would make hosting an event of its size difficult, if not impossible, without hindering the safety of attendees.

The town announced that staff will continue to evaluate and make cancellation decisions for local events as they arise while making an effort to host smaller events in 2020 as restrictions change or become lifted.
