The Ontario government reported 1,913 COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, bringing the seven-day average to 2.893.
This is the lowest daily case count since mid-December. However, this due to a technical issue with Toronto Health resulting in an underreporting of cases.
The Niagara Region reported 108 new cases today, an decrease from yesterday’s report of 134.
There were also 46 new deaths reported in the province today. There have been 5,479 COVID-19 deaths in Ontario to date.
Niagara Region reported no new COVID-19 deaths on Tuesdat. In total, 223 people have died from the virus in the region.
“Ontario is reporting 1,913 cases of #COVID19 and over 34,500 tests completed. Locally, there are 550 new cases in Toronto, 346 in Peel and 235 in York Region. Due to a technical issue at Toronto Public Health, there is likely an underreporting of cases today,” said Ontario Health Minister Christine Elliott on Twitter Tuesday morning.
Public health units in Ontario also reporting higher case numbers include Durhan with 82 new cases, Windsor with 81 new cases, Waterloo with 79 cases, London with 73 cases, and Halton Region with 71. Other public health units reported 70 cases or less.
Vaccine doses administered in Ontario and Niagara
More than 15,154 vaccine doses were administered in Canada bringing the total number of vaccines administered so far across the country to more than 629,820. That means that 1.559 per cent of the Canadian population has received at least one dose of the vaccine
Over 14,346 of yesterday’s doses were given in Ontario, for a total of approximately 224,134 administered across the province so far. That’s 1.52 per cent of the provincial population.
An initial vaccine supply arrived in the Niagara Region last Tuesday. Approximately 433 vaccines were administered as of Tuesday morning. A total of 1,859 doses have been administered in the region by Niagara Public Health in long-term care homes and high-risk retirement homes.

The total number of vaccinations in the region is at 3,591. Against a population of 447,888 (2016 census), that means about 0.8 per cent of the region’s residents have been vaccinated so far.

Niagara Region trends
Case numbers over the weekend and on Monday and Tuesday remained under the daily record of 471 cases last Monday, the largest single-day jump ever seen in the region due in part to a backlog of cases being updated. Numbers also remained below the previous daily record of 196 reported on Friday, Jan. 8.
The death count went up by four cases over the weekend and by six on Monday. No new cases were reported today. This brings the total number of deaths to 223. Deaths are reported three times per week by NRPH on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
1,626 cases in Ontario hospitals
Ontario has now had 242,277 total cases, with 209,183 cases resolved. There are 1,626 cases in hospitals, with 400 in intensive care and 292 on ventilators.
Hospitalized cases increased by 55, the number of those in intensive care increased by six, and patients on ventilators decreased by 11 since Monday.
The total number of confirmed cases in the Niagara Region now at 6,797 with 4,720 resolved. Of those cases, there are 1,854 active cases, increasing by 104 since Monday and 53 active outbreaks, same as Monday.
